Since the mid-90s

An idea that arrived from London.

Decorative function lighting was not a thing you could hire in South Africa when we started. It is now, and a fair amount of that is thirty years of us turning up with ladders.

The short version

Dynamic specialists
of function
decorative lighting.

That is how we describe ourselves, and it hasn't needed updating.

Lighting is an often-forgotten yet crucial part of the ambience of almost any interior — and how much more so when the interior is your event. Whether you want to pick out the key features of a hall or simply create a mood, we find the combination of lights that suits your specific event.

From inception, through set-up, until takedown.

  1. The mid-1990s

The concept is imported from London and introduced in South Africa. There is essentially no local market for decorative function lighting yet.

  2. The decades after

Halls, marquees, gardens, shuls, offices, exhibition floors and back gardens — weddings and simchas alongside corporate galas, launches and shows.

  3. Sun City, twice

Two events for a major banking group, plus work at Summer Place in Inanda. The brief on a big stage is the same as on a small one.

  4. Thirty years on

Still the same job: look at the room, choose the lights, rig it, run it, take it down.

What we are, and aren't

“We are not a major AV company — our lighting is effective but simple, which means we are inexpensive. All functions, any size or budget.”

DeLight, in its own words

How a job runs

01

You describe the room

Venue, date, rough numbers, and whether it's indoors, a marquee or a garden.

02

We suggest a combination

Not a package — the specific lights that suit that space and that budget.

03

We rig it

Set-up ahead of the event, with power sorted out before it becomes a problem.

04

We take it down

Afterwards, without anyone at the venue having to chase us for it.

Alongside

We are usually the
fourth supplier
in the room.

Lighting sits on top of everybody else's work — the florist's, the decor company's, the coordinator's. Over the years we have worked alongside:

  • Gideons Flowers
  • Otto de Jager
  • Funxion Fusion
  • Blooming Marvelous
  • Finer Details
  • Something Different
  • Hoi Poloi

If you are already working with a coordinator, tell us who — it is usually quicker for us to talk to them directly about access, timings and what the room is going to look like.

What clients said

The lighting looked fabulous on Saturday night. I loved the effect and the pinspots were beautiful as well.

Debbie Firer

Thank you so much for your professional work delivered yesterday. The bride and everyone was very happy.

Margaret Shandoss · Atomic Orchid

Thank you to you and your team, especially Gift. The lighting made the function come to life — the dance floor made such an impact.

Carla Marcus

The hall looked magnificent. We especially loved the mechitza.

Hours before anybody arrives

Let's look at your room.

Send the venue and the date. We'll come back with what we'd light and what it costs — any size, any budget.
