The things people ask first.
Mostly about money, power and whether we turn up. Fair enough.
How much does it cost?
Every event is quoted on its own, because the number depends on the venue, the size of the space and how much of it you want lit.
What we can tell you is where we sit: “We are not a major AV company — our lighting is effective but simple, which means we are inexpensive. All functions, any size or budget.”
Send us the details and we'll come back with a real number rather than a range.
Is there a minimum booking?
No. All functions, any size or budget. One uplit wall in a small room is a job we'll quote for, the same as a marquee.
What areas do you cover?
We travel to the venue. Past work includes Sun City and Summer Place in Inanda, along with halls, marquees, gardens, shuls and offices.
Tell us where your event is on the enquiry form and we'll confirm we can get there.
Do you set up and take down, or do we?
We do. From inception, through set-up, until takedown — so nothing has to be handed over mid-evening, and nobody at the venue has to chase us the next morning.
What happens if the venue has no power?
We carry generators and invertors as part of the service rather than as an afterthought.
Gardens, farms and marquees frequently have nothing usable. Mention it on the enquiry form — it changes what we bring, and it is far cheaper to plan for than to solve on the night. More on backup power.
How far ahead should we book?
There's no fixed lead time. Lighting is often one of the last things people book, so short notice is not unusual for us.
Send the date and we'll tell you whether it's clear. If it's close, call rather than email.
Can you match our colours and decor?
Yes — uplights and table lighting run in white or in colour, and we pick the combination against whatever the florist and decor company are already doing.
If you're working with a coordinator, tell us who. It's usually quicker for us to talk to them directly about access, timings and how the room is being dressed.
What exactly is a MyChitsa?
A mechitza that we design and light for your occasion instead of one you hire and hide.
You choose the colour, the shape and the lighting, so it either blends into your decor or becomes a focal point. See MyChitsa.
Do you light sukkahs?
Yes. Every sukkah is a different structure, so there's no standard package for it.
Tell us the size, whether it's covered and what power you have out there, and we'll suggest what will work.
Do you supply dance floors, DJs or a band?
Dance floors and mirror balls, yes — laid, lit and taken down as part of the same job. Disco lighting and DJs too, so there's one set-up and one takedown rather than three suppliers on site.
We have also supplied a live rock band, The Notion, for functions that want one. See dance floors & effects.
Can you light outdoors, including pools?
Yes. Outdoors we run festoon and fairy lights, floodlights and outdoor spots, bamboo and paraffin flares, and Olympic flames and konkas.
Underwater lights exist for pools, ponds and water features. See the outdoor range.
How long have you been doing this?
Since about 1995 — roughly thirty years. The concept was imported from London and introduced in South Africa, where decorative function lighting wasn't yet something you could simply hire. More about us.
Still deciding?
Ask us the awkward question.
Budget, access, power, timings — whatever you have not seen answered above. We would rather talk it through than have you guess.
